President’s Recognition of Student Excellence in Mission Ceremony – April 2022
Campus Compact is a national coalition of colleges and universities committed to the public purposes of higher education, of which Lewis University is a member institution. Each year, Compact recognizes and supports a group of community-committed students – who are changemakers and public problem-solvers – as Newman Civic Fellows. These outstanding students are nominated by their university’s president or chancellor on the basis of their potential for public leadership.
Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides students with training and resources that nurture their assets and passions and help them develop strategies for social change. The yearlong program, named for Campus Compact founder Frank Newman, includes virtual learning opportunities and networking as part of a national network of engaged student leaders, along with in-person opportunities for fellows to learn with and from one-another. This year, for the first time, Lewis University nominated a student for the Newman Civic Fellows program.
The 2022-23 Lewis University Newman Civic Fellow, Dominick Bartels, is a second-year student who has already made his mark on the campus community by demonstrating his commitment and willingness to get engaged. He has been involved with the Community Engaged Learning Facilitator program, Student Senate, the Political Science Honor Society, University Ministry’s Catalyst program, and he also serves as a Resident Assistant. Through these roles, Dominick serves the campus and local community. He listens, seeks to understand, and collaborates with others to try to make meaningful change.
Lewis University is proud to have Dominick Bartels serve our the first-ever Newman Civic Fellow. Thanks for your work, Dominick!
