CELF Spotlight – Rob Gaeta

Rob Gaeta is a super-duper senior at Lewis, majoring in Social Work (after trying out Computer Science and English). Rob shared that by saying “super-duper” he means to say his interests are somewhat hard to pin down, but one thing that will always be true is he lives, breathes, eats and analyzes horror films as it if were his job. Rob loves to be thrilled!

As a first semester CELF, Rob is collaborating with Catholic Charities and their Foster Grandparent program. According to their website, the Foster Grandparent Program “offers adults age 55 and older the opportunity to work with children with special needs at the local elementary schools and preschools” for about 20 hours per week. Since the pandemic limited their ability to go into schools, Foster Grandparents have been paired with Lewis’ Introduction to Social Work students for companionship and relationship development. Rob was one of the students first partnered with the program and now he’s helping other students to engage.

Rob shared that “being a CELF provides me an opportunity to really concentrate my intellectual curiosities into an arena of action. It is a role that calls for generous application of introspection & reflection. The level of collaboration and discovery that it has afforded me is empowering, as it provides an eye-opening demonstration of the role & strength of community.” It has been great to have Rob as a CELF this semester!
